When will women stand up for who they truly are?
We all know the facts. This isn’t new news. The question is ‘when are we as women going to face the fact that we need to find the courage to step up and stand up for who we know we truly are and expect the same respect demanded by our male counterparts?
It’s not hard...it just takes belief in ourselves and a self-awareness about our strengths and the impact we deliver. Remove gender from the equation. Demonstrate confidence, acknowledge your contributions as a leader and a team member. Be authentic about your development opportunities but don’t be self-deprecating. Frame your self-assessment from a positive standpoint rather than being self-critical.
Here’s what the shift looks like: ‘continuing to experiment with new relationship building strategies’ - versus ‘struggling to find common ground with two colleagues’. This will open a dialogue with your boss about they might recommend you adjust your approach to improve those tricky relationships — and then your boss will have your back since it’s their suggestion.
